Aggressive accounting? Sounds familiar. Birds of a feather, I guess. How come SEC has not been investigating AOL while it is just screwing Tel-Sav? Maybe Steve Case has some tricks there. (Re: sfgate.com )
But for God's sake, 40 years? I thought u can only spread ur expense, charge, or whatever God damned analyst dinner meeting bills, up to three years. Am I correct? 40 years, it is getting nonlinear here.
I've got this feeling that one day u will hear Case wishing Pittman well for his future career, Tel-Sav refuses to pay, and AOL suing Tel-Sav filed in Philadelphia court or something like that. It'd be interesting to know how much more revanue Tel-Sav has gained since that deal was cut. But again, if numbers can be cooked, then why bother asking. Just need to ask ur friends in that area and see if they know AOL and Tel-Sav, and if there were any unusual surcharges popping up on their monthly statements, make sure they go back a few years and check.
BTW: I was continuously charged for two years at $20-40 per month of calling card calls without noticing it. The calling card belonged to a previous owner of my number, but her calls were charged to me. One day I had no better thing to do and decided to look at who I had called and discovered so many area codes which I did not recognzie. I quickly searched through all the old bills and WOW...MCI made my day!...I got some $300 back!
Face it, AOL knows a lot of stupid lazy people like me who are $19.95 insensitive and they make the phone so hard to get through that they will never hear from u after they've got ur credit card number. I have heard so many people cursing it. They have to cancel their credit card to stop it. Some even had to change their social security number because people used his SN to apply for a new card--he did not know until he was applying for a loan! (Changing card number won't work, as ur bank will still let them draw the money, which they call it a valid old contract of sale) Many just let them keep that 19.95 per month for no time to call. (More people doing that will certainly keep AOL stock flying high!)
And now u know why AOL made a penny last quarter.
