Diamonds are common and the price is artificially inflated by DeBeers(sp?)? Is this the case? I saw this on a Frontline show. So that is the extent of my knowledge on the subject FWIW. A rather scary Frontline show on last night. But, that is OT.

>>And I suppose that CREE does nothing but make fancy bits of carborundum...

I don't study CREE and I don't know what "carborundum" is. I did follow CREE for a brief time last year (when I started the GG adventure; bad timing). Doesn't CREE have a highly optimized method for SiC crystallization which gives the company leverage in marketing this material?

I've crystallized mgs to tons of many organic molecules and most of the time it is challenging and fun. But, a patented crystallization procedure doesn't seem like it would provide much of a BTE.

Do diamonds somehow add value to CREE's product(s)? Or, does CREE simply use diamond to manufacture its products? If so, a phrase an old timer once spoke to me comes to mind. He said, "Son, your job is to make silk from sows ears." So, CREE makes a fine product from overpriced graphite. No?
