Scrapps, what is your source for >The USR name brand will stay!!!<
I don't think the USR name brand will stay. I think the product brands such as Courier, Sportster, etc. will stay, but it really makes no sense to keep USR on there. USR is no more! Per the terms of the merger, they are 3Com modems now, and 3Com needs to do the sensible thing, which is to get the 3Com name on as many products as they can! Every one of those ads for x2 needs to say 3Com. The red goes out, the blue goes in! I'm absolutely serious about this. It took me awhile to accept it, but now that the merger is actually completed, I can see that it makes no sense to dally around being sentimental about names. I realize that only yesterday I was saying how the USR name being dropped is a big waste of marketing dollars, but there's really no alternative. The only thing that might work is this: A blue and white modem box, with the 3Com title in big letters, something like,
3Com Sportster modem
...."powered by US Robotics"
The important things are these:
1) Customers see the 3Com Sportster modem, and they know that a) It is original USR engineering, and b) It is now part of the 3Com networking powerhouse, with the full backing of the new combined company, and
2) 3Com, 3Com, 3Com, everywhere you look! On NIC's, on 3Com "Network Ready" stickers, 3Com in x2 modem ads, 3Com Total Control RA Systems.
3Com can now become much bigger in the minds of all customers: from professionals at network server sites, to Joes like you and me using modems, to small business people buying NIC's for a small office network.
