What do you want?

E, I don't have any heartburn over this. I didn't even have enough interest in it to follow the news and the trial. I'm prepared to write it off as a tragic mistake. I've done enough investigations in my time to know that an outsider can't usually know what really happened let alone what anyone was thinking. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. My intent in posting was simply to agree with Steven on the bullets.

If I were making changes in police procedure based on this situation, I can only think of two conspicuous areas. One might be some more training on recognizing a gun. You ought to see a gun before you shout "gun." There must be ways to do simulator training on that.

If you're going to use that much fire power, justified or not, you shouldn't be surprised when people think the worst. I'm not prepared to tell the cops how to shoot. It seems to me that if four guys each fire one round and the victim is on the deck, one of them can get to the weapon while the others prepare to blast the downed man into eternity if his fingers twitch. If they think the risk to the safety of the cops is too great to take that approach, then they are consciously choosing to risk the public reaction they get. I think it's their choice which risk they prefer.
