My favorite war movie of all time is "Gettysburg." I don't think the movie ever got the respect that it deserved. It's not going to make anyone's Top 100 list, but the Battle for Little Round Top was as nail-biting as anything I have ever seen on film. And an extra bonus for right-wing extremists ... Ted Turner takes a bullet as a reb colonel in Pickett's Charge. Another classic is the 1937 Russian-made "Alexander Nevsky," which arguably boasts the finest film score (Prokofiev) ever written.
