<<I think you are doing field research to figure out which gambling house/hotel to short first>>

Actually, that IS partly true. I think the hotels here will be hurt here because of the expected summertime energy related problems in So. Cal, competition from Indian Gaming there and higher energy prices here (not trivial when you're airconditiong a humongous casino in the desert in 115 degree heat...

My favorite short candidate is STN, Station Casinos. They've acquired several extremely popular locals casinos, and proceeded to gut the full-pay video poker inventories (which is not winning any friends or business from the locals they depend on). They have a mountain of debt as well due to their recent acquisitions. So I plan to visit a number of their properties, this SHOULD be a very busy weekend for them and if business is slow there, I may pull the trigger. I'll post my findings after the trip. Another possibility is MBG....

During the mania, gamblers were at the tables in droves, both with the "money" they made going long VERT and MSTR, and nouveau riche California punks trying to parlay their expected ESOP winnings (in many cases, before they sold the stock, thus getting a visit from RealMan's cousin, AMT-Man). Those types (the gen-X extremely wealthy nouveau whales) are for the most part extinct in these parts.

This slowdown should be different from the short ones experienced in the 90's. If so, the stamina of the "gamblers" is in question, methinks.
