As you may know, there are some fundamentalist Jews that do not acknowledge the legitimacy of the Israeli state, but consider themselves to be like earlier communities who lived under the Turks, because Israel was established as a secular state without benefit of Messiah. Some participate in politics, pragmatically, to win benefits for religious institutions, some opt out altogether. Most Orthodox Jews are not like this, of course, but those that are are a significant, vocal minority when aroused. In any event, even a lot of Modern Orthodox would shrink from taking the reconstruction of the Temple into our own hands. It is just not the expected order of things.......
