jl, it don't play too well when times are good (like under slick willy heh heh), which is why I was surprised that Gore shifted gears -- and why it was the Nader factor that caused it during that election. On the other hand, once times get tough, people WILL start taking a long look at the differences - just ask George Bush senior how ignoring it went over in his debates.

People will say - Why do I lose my house in foreclosure or can't get out of personal bankruptcy under the new law while CEOs have increased the gap between their pay and the average joe by a hundredfold ? (it's hard to buy the market efficiency argument when the boards of directors are stacked with other CEO types, and stockholder power is usually too diffuse to make any difference). Why are those guys all protected with enormous golden parachutes ? Why are all the toxic plants sited in low income areas where they cause ongoing health problems ? Just a very few examples here - class warfare's about the monied class in power exercising too many rules in its favor in a democracy (or conversely, too many giveaways when it swings to the other extreme - conservatives practice class warfare too, they just don't call it by a name). These differences get magnified when the balance shifts too far. It's really better termed class struggle than class warfare. It's alive and well, in many guises. Fortunately, Shrub seems not to acknowledge this, and it will bite him eventually -- already is starting to. The sensible center will win out in the end.

Might they start dusting off a little Upton Sinclair again ?
