The recently-passed tax cut "expires" (as to rates) in 2011. It's non-rate features are phased in over the life of the bill. There are 5 elections between now and 2010. If the Republicans can follow the Jeffords expulsion with a further cleanup, they have an opportunity to lead on taxes for a decade. The Democrats and their lapdog media are dedicated to keeping the public dark-ages ignorant about taxes. That's the source of liberal power. The Republicans face three tasks:

1) Improving the deficiencies in the current bill. The entire thing should be retroactive to 1-1-2001, and should include a capital gains tax reduction. The dealing should be about "how quickly" rather than "whether" to accelerate. Any Republicans who are "uncomfortable" with this should be aggressively chased out of office (Calling Club for Growth...).

2) Every liberal who runs for office in the next 5 elections should be HARRASSED continuously about whether they are against or for the "already existing" tax cut. This will destroy any dedicated socialist who tries to run outside of New England. Call it the "Roe versus Wade" tactic...

3) Daschle will try to look like he's dealing so he can posture himself and his party as something other than the enemy of America that they are. EVERY deal for the next 10 years should be centered on improving and extending the tax cut.

Don't just let 'em bring that class-warfare out, MAKE 'EM do it!
