I'm not quite sure how we keep missing each other. But hey lets keep trying. I disagree that they don't have an "absolute and inviolate standard that they are commanded to protect" In fact the elementary principal upon which this island community was established is this whole idea that it is true that there are no truths.

The very idea, that there are no absolute and inviolate standards is itself an absolute statement, or truth claim, by which all other truth claims about right and wrong are to be measured.

Either this claim, that "there are no absolute and inviolate standards" is a true statement or it is not.

If it is true then it is also self refuting, since you are claiming that it is true that there is no such thing as truth. Which is it?

Is this idea supposed to receive some sort of special status or exemption? Of course if you are not claiming that your position is true then the problem goes away, but then your just talking gibberish.

The truth is that you and X and Solon are all only selective relativists. I have been trying to point this out for some time, but we are like ships in the night. I think your idea of flexibility is simply a way to weasel out of an untenable and contradictory philosophy.

You think I'm wrong and your right. That's fine, just don't pretend that you have somehow removed yourself from the arena of truth claims. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that such an obviously intelligent, and thoughtful person as yourself could be so easily confused on this matter.
