Metro Rings or Cisco in the city A quick read of the news reveals a large number of metro ring buildouts. The metro ring buildouts require very little equipment to deploy, they are comprised primarily of fiber in the buildings and ground. The headend of a metro ring is generally connected to a transport solution that is optical. Your list of leading metro ring companies seems to be correct does it not ? The interface between a metro ring and building equipment (CPE) has to straddle the line between the customers $60.00 5 port hub 10M Ethernet on one hand and light on the other, this is where Cisco rules. I have a definite bias here <grin>. Metro ring completions are advancing at a good pace all over the world and as this segment of the next network is built sales patterns for equipment will reflect that maturation, count on it.
