hi e
re, "It's discouraging to read this thread and see that even you smart dudes, even mr. mark, have problems all the time"
couple quick things, e. to begin with, there are people on this thread far smarter than me. i know that better than anyone, and i try my best to make that fact well-known often. i endeavor to act as a facilitator here on the cl thread. i have a desire to put people with solutions, if you will. but i am not unlike anyone else here. which brings up the next point... my discouragement with your discouragement, or anyone's discouragement, for that matter.
i should hope (and it is indeed my goal) that you and others (who have respectfully yet incorrectly labeled me as a 'smart dude') would look at the fact that i have troubles too and come away from that with a feeling of encouragement. yes, to know that you or any of us are not alone.
"I mean, clearly it never f-ing ends"
right, and not-so-right. it may never end, but it gets better. definitely, it gets better. you've said as much yourself.
"I love what the computer does for me, but i don't have a natural fascination with how it does it"
nor do i, believe it or not. i do have a strong attraction to keeping it doing what it's supposed to be doing. most of the time, i consider these things to be 'magic boxes' (there goes the smart dude label), and i'm content knowing that there is a point of limited comprehension beyond which i seriously doubt i will ever journey. any 'natural fascination' i may have is definitely more along the lines of what i have stated in the thread header....
"we’re just trying to keep our machines running and have some fun while we’re at it. if we can help you, it makes us happy."
i am as drawn to and fascinated by the learning process and the good feeling of helping someone, as i could ever be to how a computer works.
hope this makes sense.
:)
