Ed, you are probably aware of this ... but anyway I have played around a little with the idea and observed others run the same 'test.' Having to do with aesthetics and the appeal of certain forms in some crafts, in this particular case pottery. One takes several examples of the same form or shape, e.g. a bowl, with slight variations in the size, width and height. Line them up and ask people which appeals to them most. More often than not people pick the one closest to the golden ratio.

There is a nice example of this in a book, the title of which is something like "Pottery: Form and Function," by Robin Hopper. Anyway, he illustrates the point/example very nicely with some drawings in the book.
