re, "Let me know if PW's solution works. I'd be interested in learning what she came up with."
i'm sorry that i did not elaborate. essentially it had to do with her amalgamation of vxd files post #reply-15264980 and i am looking at your post #reply-15827460
but what's slowing me down (dampening my enthusiasm) for big ed's remedy is the requirements for win95... either have "Microsoft's PowerToys for Windows 95" installed, or deal with this:
"Because Windows 95 does not come with a .CAB file viewer, the process is more involved. First, the correct .CAB file will need to be found. You can do this by clicking on START and then Find. Select the Win95 folder on the Windows 95 cdrom to search in, and then type in *.CAB in the Named box. Next, click on the Advanced tab, and then place the name of the .vxd file that you want to find in the Containing Text box. Click on Find Now. The box should now display the correct .CAB file number.
Now that you have the correct .CAB file, you can use an compression program, like WinZip, to extract the needed file. Extract the file to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder."
despite what some folks may think about my fascination with what makes computers work <g3>, i am not motivated enough to chop through all of that tall grass when i've discovered a relatively easy workaround in the interim (auto-start one firewall and manual-start the other).
once again, thanks for your interest.
:)
