What do you use ? or So do cows.
Invariably my children ask the question, are we there yet ? They cannot comprehend "journey". I thought I was pretty clear, maybe I wasn't. The equipment that straddles the gap between the CPE and the backbone is almost all Cisco. In case you didn't notice Victor, Cisco's numbers show that they are the clear leader in the Ethernet routing market, they definitely "rule" and this is neither wishful thinking nor bullshit. The metro ring market is just starting to open up, as I said, metro rings are being built all over the world. Nortel, Ciena, Juniper, Sycamore - all make optical equipment, not Ethernet equipment, they do offer lower speed interfaces, mostly as an afterthought and usually petering out around OC-3. Cisco on the other hand is coming from the bottom up, and they "rule" this market. Low speed connections are made through and on Cisco gear all over the world. Cisco's metro ring market is there, as soon as the data starts flowing in and through metro rings. Customers are going to buy the least connectivity they can to the metro ring. The choice will be GigE and the equipment selected to groom up low speed connections will be Cisco.
Tomorrow cannot be found in yesterday Victor, everyone knows that, and no, we aren't there yet. |
