I agree with you but why stop there -- shouldn't all folks be able to make pre-tax payment for health insurance like those covered by an employer's plan? I am self-employed so in between at the moment (50%?), waiting for 100% to phase-in someday. And I am sure there are other examples of benefit options only available to those in select employment positions. And why are SEP-IRA and Keogh limits so much higher than the 401k? Oh, are lawyers more likely to be self-employed?
