I think that the degree of correction in the gold shares and the xau will determine the significance of this rally. Marantette, and others expect a full correction so as to essentially wipe out the gains made since last October. I believe that if the correction is only a partial one, i.e. 30-60 % of the last leg, and the uptrend remains intact, then all bets are off. That should be regarded as a buying opportunity. There are those who also believe that gold will catch up to what the shares have done. I am leaning toward the latter scenario at this time and personally am waiting for a buying opportunity.
