"...If what you call the "GSM Guild" were nervous, they would not have put so much work into, or emphasis on the development of Release 2000, and now Release 5 which focuses on the all IP-Network and the high speed extension of WCDMA..."

I'm not suggesting that the Guild is adverse to All IP. Certainly not.

What I am suggesting is that the OHG's vision for an All IP specification which is independent of radio technology - and harmonized with 3GPP2 IP specifications - is hardly what they had in mind.

On another note, I find it interesting that the TTA (with membership in both 3GPP and 3GPP2) is presently pushing hard for the harmonization of 1xevdv and HSDPA. No doubt a result of possessing 1x networks while concurrently entertaining the wCDMA pipe dream as well....

It's interesting (at least to me) that Korea MII cites unstable, ever-changing UMTS specifications as a main reason why wCDMA won't see the light of day in S Korea for the protracted future:

"Aside from the domestic development progress, the lack of reliability of asynchronous IMT 2000 technology is the biggest problem. To date, the international standard underlying W-CDMA technology is complemented and revised every 3 months."

So, I guess I'm not entirely alone in my perceptions....

And actually, they're being generous. UMTS specifications receive scores of corrections and revisions at least monthly.

I noted that you seemed comforted by the fact that 3GPP CR's are so easily approved - as a sign that specification development is rolling along smoothly.

Seems to me they're approved entirely too easily - as will future corrections and revisions to these corrections and revisions....

funny world....
