Ben: Point well taken re: potential delay in ALA/LU finalization.

My concern is that Qualcomm is very dependent on three areas for its overall success. These are infrastructure, handsets and operators.

Re: Infrastructure: Lucent has worked closely with Qualcomm for years and the two companies have seemed to be at the forefront of developing and testing new infrastructure approaches for CDMA.

My question is whether this close and productive relationship will continue under new management of a combined ALA/LU?

It is not that the new company will throw out the arrangements already set with Verizon or UNICOM, but where will Qualcomm turn for similar close working relations on new initiatives?

Also the idea that ALA will be mean CDMA in Europe seems to be wishful thinking, but it is possible that ALA could be useful in advancing CDMA elsewhere.

Just worrying out loud.

Appreciate all the comments.

Best.

Note: The Ericsson CDMA infrastructure experience is worth considering IMO.
Ericsson took over a first class operation which seemed to have real potential. Yet the actual use of that asset has been spotty at best. The most interesting example will be in China where Ericsson has a major CDMA infrastructure opportunity. Let's see how Ericsson does with that.
