I entirely agree.

At a larger scale, even prospective disappointments and failures, for both GPRS and wCDMA/UMTS, will not effect or alter Europe's course.

Which is South.

But I believe, in light of prospective GPRS and wCDMA/UMTS disappointments and failures, there is a strong chance that the world's other major markets may veer from the course plotted by 3GSM.

In two ways:
1) Conversion by TDMA operators, and 1x overlays on existing GSM networks...
2) The evolution of wCDMA specifications in ways presently unexpected ... as operators demand timely, viable technologies... and as Asia becomes more and more dominant in 3GPP proceedings...

2002 will tell. I think LA and China are the venues to watch.
