It is very interesting that even gambling opponents are now acknowledging the ability of the internet to check abuses better than their brick & mortar counterparts. People must finally be doing their homework.

<<California Lawmakers to Debate Banning Web Gambling

CALIFORNIA –- As reported by The Desert Sun: ``A Palm Springs advocate for problem gamblers said he has mixed feelings about the prospects for Internet gambling in California.

``The state Assembly could vote as early as this week on whether to outlaw the practice.

``Whether banning online gambling here will help people addicted to betting is another question, said Tom Tucker, executive director of the California Council on Problem Gambling.

``Tucker said easy access to gambling creates more temptation to play and compounds the factors that cause people to continue betting.

``But he also said Internet gambling technology allows Web-based casinos to track gamblers’ habits more closely than their physical counterparts.

``Tracking software could watch for dramatic swings in a customer’s betting habits, he said.

``…Three committees have already approved the bill to prohibit online gambling.

``…If passed, Dario Frommer’s bill would make it illegal for Californians to place bets on the Internet. It would also give California law enforcement the authority to prosecute virtual casino owners who accept bets from the state -- no matter where the casino Web site is based

``…A Yucca Valley software developer who is promoting a line of Internet bingo games said a virtual casino could identify signs that indicate if customer is addicted to gambling…”>>
