Well at least we have some discussion on SGI as it pertains to its fundamental values and "raison d'etre" rather than about rumours that no one want's to back up with a clear statement.

And, while I didn't get into it, yes the Boeing was designed by many companys working together and sharing data and information electronically. As for the 50,000 versus 5,000, my point is that if a tool allows one to be more productive, then you generally (and this doesn't apply to everything) don't need as many people to get all the work done. How many draftsmen were replaced by one PC? And it is true that larger is better in global competition, but larger without efficiency is chaos. IMHO.

I'm not arguing the benefit of PCs, but compare what a unified integrated system by SGI gives you by reading these links, and then tell me how a "one design is good for all" Wintel PC can equal or better SGI from a design perspective.

I'm sure you all know this stuff, right? Well for SGI to provide this stuff, customers have to be charged a premium over a regular PC. I'm not sure SGI can bring the price of the O2 down to PC prices without sacrificing something along the way and maybe losing its unique identity.
