Ah, can I start refering to Island members as "the tribe." I never see these queries when engaged with non-Islanders.

Were you thinking I considered my self to be a perfect model of goodness? Your mistake...I do try though.

"Brees, can you tell me how such a statement fits into your scheme of right and wrong?" I am not of the "saviour" mentality. Some people think that when they encounter someone who is nuts they should try to "save" them. Not me. When people choose ignorance or evil and it is obviously not a condition of low intellect or inability to behave righteously then it is not my position to try to change them. I figure we are each responsible for our own individual souls. When we know someone who we care about and we see them making poor choices, we should encourage better choice making and behavior. This is not the case with solon. He clearly likes to live in his hideous and annoying world and is capable of making that choice with full knowledge. I wash my hands. I hope that explains my position for you (I understand you don't agree with my assessment of solon).

"BTW, I hope you haven't forgotten that you said you'd post something on that for us to chew on."

I had something much simpler in mind for a scheme of right and wrong. I think I said I could make a list that sincere people whether religious or not would likely be fine with...even though it comes from religion. I didn't see any comments, on that so I figured no one was interested.

I'll give it a shot since you asked so nicely (BTW I've noticed that you usually do and I respect you for your polite approach and good manners on this thread). I deliberately stopped short of 10.

1. Tell the truth.
2. Forgive the wrongs of others who have a) expressed sincere remorse, b) made reparations for their wrong doing, c) have shown a sincere intent eliminate the wrong in the future.
3. Show mercy toward those who have committed a wrong that cannot be corrected when they have: a) expressed sincere remorse, b) made reparations for their wrong doing, c) have shown a sincere intent eliminate the wrong in the future.
4. Be just and fair in judgement.
5. Have compassion for and work toward the well being of other creatures.
6. Protect the innocent from unjust acts.
7. Seek knowledge and truth in all things.
8. Do not steal.
9. Do not commit murder.
