there is another movie that i will stop and watch, usually no matter what else i'm doing, as i am flipping through the channels.... and to me, that is a valid indicator of a great movie.... will you drop everything and watch it, no matter where it is in the story, if you didn't know it was being aired and suddenly you encounter it?
that movie is 1987's predator, starring, among others, arnold schwarzenegger.
"A team of commandos, on a mission in a South American jungle, find themselves hunted by an extra-terrestrial warrior."
i am most intrigued by this movie monster. as one reviewer said, "The Predator looks wicked as well - Stan Winston outdid himself, as the Predator does look and move like a vicious being from another world, and not just some stunt guy in a rubber suit."
the special effects are terrific, i've never seen another 'monster' that moves and behaves like predator. and he is "one ugly mother", to quote arnold upon finally encountering the alien warrior face-to-face. the scene where arnold and the predator get down, one-on-one, and the predator methodically unplugs and removes all his high-tech gear in order to give arnold a fighting chance, is superb. when he takes his headgear off, revealing his face for the first time, and smiles at the dumbfounded arnold, audience members are looking at one of the most frightening creatures hollywood has ever conjured up!
