Not "if" but "when". Just like the Itanic. We knew Itanium would eventually come crawling out of the slime and it got its much deserved low-key intro. It is a dead/pilot CPU and most/all Wintel articles basically highlight that fact. Here is a good article from a very reputable magazine, Electronic Engineering Times that says a lot in its headline: Are OEMs "waiting for McKinley?" [Why of course!] eet.com With Merced in hand, OEMs await follow-on "Merced is shaping up as a kind of development platform, as OEMs await the more capable McKinley — due next year — to design their systems around. "The first version of IA-64 will be targeted at several key areas, pilot programs and early developers," Hudson said. "When we get to the McKinley time frame, that will be a major boost.
