AdvancePCS Q4 earnings before items rise

IRVING, Texas, May 29 (Reuters) - Pharmacy and health management firm AdvancePCS Inc. (NASDAQ NM:ADVP) said on Tuesday its fourth-quarter earnings before items rose nearly 70 percent.

The company, formed by Advanced Paradigm's purchase of PCS Health Systems in October, 2000, said earnings before merger costs and one-time items totaled $9.8 million, or 22 cents per diluted share, compared with $5.8 million or 21 cents a year earlier.

Analysts had expected earnings to range from 18 cents to 21 cents, with a consensus of 20 cents, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.

Revenues totaled $2.99 billion, up more than four-fold from $521 million in the year-ago period.

Net income, including merger costs and one-time items, was $3.4 million, down from $5.8 million a year earlier
