Qualcomm Investor Relations response to the 5105 article:

This article is incorrect on several points. First, there are no known
problems or defects in the MSM 5105 chip, which sampled in December, 2000
and is now in production. The 5105 supports data rates of up to 153 kbps
on the forward link and this has been verified with several infrastructure
manufacturers and carriers. All of our 1x MSM chips (5000, 5105, 5100)
support convolutional coding, as will the MSM6xxx family of chips. Several
handset manufacturers are completing handsets based on the MSM 5105.

Any "delay" in phones being released, as the article states, is probably
related to a change in marketing strategy by certain handset manufacturers
to offer the latest, greatest chip (5100 supports 307 kbps, plus all the
multimedia and position location features). Although, this isn't
necessarily an issue since many manufacturers have parallel development
efforts using both the 5105 and 5100 for low-end and high-end models,
respectively. We believe the 5105 as a very practical, cost effective
solution for 1x, but we also think there is a great advantage in the
carriers being able to offer a segmented range of 1x phones.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Julie
