A little intelligent discourse for this thread...

boards.fool.com

the FUD is creating huge negative impacts as far as Rambus's position in the market and its products are concerned.

There is no evidence that Rambus' position in the market is being hurt in the slightest by the FUD campaign.

RDRAM continues to ramp at good and falling prices. The volume is increasing. New designs are appearing. New RDRAM packages are appearing to enable portable and server design wins for next year.

RDRAM is moving into communications as well as very hign end servers. Sony is increasing the memory size of the PS-2. HD-TV and Set-Top boxes are ramping into production, if slower than their promoters would like.

Meanwhile, the slicensed DRAM mfgrs continue to pay royalties and the war chest continues to grow along with profits.

All in all 2001 has been a VERY GOOD YEAR for RDRAM and RAMBUS so far, and it promises to get even better as the year progresses and the economy begins to recover.

New products are the life blood of a recovery and RDRAM is going into new products faster than you can say "goose greese".

On the legal front, Rambus' patents have just gotten their first good read by the Italian panel of experts. This is now part of the record and it will be considered in the Milan Court as well as in Germany at in a few days.

The "multiplexed bus" still hangs over Rambus head, but I believe it has a good chance of being overturned within the year.

Meanwhile legal expenses will drop substantially for at least a quarter or two while the Courts digest what has transpired so far and possibly until we get a resolution on the appeals on the Markman and Fraud issues.

Rambus still has a fight on its hands, and it needs all the help it can get to win, but it is certainly winning in the market.

It is clear that Rambus Management is spread thin by this multifront war. How could it not be?

Certainly it would make us all feel better if Rambus was kicking butt on the PR front and winning clear victories on the legal front, but Rambus is not by any means falling short in the areana where it matters most, the marketplace.

Within six months Infineon and Micron and Hyundai will begin ramping RDRAM in earnest. This too will affect the FUD campaign. Ramubs management is working closely with the technical and marketing agents of these companies, even as the lawsuits continue.

A vigorous campaign against the FUD might well work to further contaminate relations between the parties. It is best to let the legal issues continue on their perilous path and focus on the marketplace. This is what Rambus management is doing and doing very well.
