Armstrong World Industries Standardizes On Dell Systems; Dell's Worldwide Reach and Custom Factory Integration are Factors in the Win

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2001--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced that Armstrong World Industries, a global leader in the design, innovation and manufacture of floors and ceilings, is standardizing on Dell notebook and desktop computers for its 16,000 employees in 15 countries.

Armstrong cited Dell's ability to deliver products consistently worldwide and the company's custom factory integration, where Dell pre-loads Armstrong's custom software during the manufacturing process.

"Our employees put high value on Dell's ability to deliver quality products and services anywhere we need them throughout our worldwide organization," Bill Hutchinson, corporate IT manager for Armstrong World Industries, said. "This decision was especially well-received in Europe where our employees have been clamoring to standardize on Dell."

Dell's use and understanding of Web-based business processes is also important as Armstrong begins using its Premier Dell.com Web site as the single point of contact for worldwide purchasing and asset management. "We were impressed that Dell gets the Web as well if not better than anyone else," Hutchinson said.

Armstrong plans to replace 6,000 workstations over the next three years. About half of those systems will be Dell(tm) Latitude(tm) notebooks and half will be Dell OptiPlex(tm) desktop systems. Dell custom factory integration service provides a range of custom built, factory installed solutions. Dell performs the custom configuration during the initial system build. It's a one-touch integration that ensures customers' Dell products are configured and deployed to their specifications.
