Hanaro Telecom in Talks with Alcatel for US$300 Mln.

Hanaro Telecom is reportedly in talks to attract up to US$300 million in foreign capital from France-based Alcatel, a leading supplier of high-tech equipment for global telecommunications. Talks are currently underway for the French firm to provide up to US$300 million in vendor financing, officials of Hanaro said on Wednesday. Although the two sides have not agreed on terms or a timetable yet, the result will come out at the end of August at the earliest, said an official of Hanaro Telecom. Meanwhile, Hanaro signed a memorandum of understanding to induce some US$120 million and US$200 million from Lucent Technologies and Cisco Systems, respectively. (Daily Economic Times, 3/8/00)
