12:56pm 05/30/01 VimpelCom jumps on Q1 results (VIP) By Michael Baron
VimpelCom (VIP) is climbing $1.56, or 10.4 percent, to $16.61, after the Russian telecommunications services firm reported first-quarter earnings of $5.1 million, or 12 cents per American Depositary Receipt, up from a year-ago loss of $11.8 million, or 32 cents per ADR. Revenue rose 22.6 percent in the latest three months to $80.7 million from $65.8 million in the same period a year earlier. The company attributed the strong growth to an overall increase in the number of subscribers. VimpelCom estimates that its market share in Moscow totals roughly 40 percent. Total subscribers as of March 31 were 984,400.
