I have never seen "The Searchers", however, I checked out some of the internet reviews. I will have to catch it on
TCM or rent the video.One of the reviews said it was John Wayne's best performance.

Also, Burl Ives around the same time did a great job in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", I believe it garnered several Oscars as well.
