Aware, Inc. Announces Availability of G.shdsl Technology
BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2001--Aware, Inc. (NASDAQ: AWRE - news), a DSL technology leader and innovator, announced today the availability of G.shdsl intellectual property to enable semiconductor companies to rapidly develop products based on the international standard for symmetric high-bit-rate DSL.
``We have a strong track record of delivering high-quality intellectual property to the broadband semiconductor market,'' said Michael Tzannes, Aware chief executive officer. ``The addition of G.shdsl to our technology portfolio further diversifies our offerings and expands the end-user market that we address.''
G.shdsl is also known as G.991.2 and was recently standardized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). By delivering greater symmetric bandwidth over longer distances than current 2B1Q-based SDSL and traditional T1 / HDSL systems, G.shdsl is an attractive solution for carriers' business-class voice and data services. As an international standard, G.shdsl has the benefits of multi-vendor interoperability and spectral compatibility with other DSL technologies. According to UBS Warburg, the market for G.shdsl chipsets could be in the $1.5 - 2 billion range between 2002 and 2005.
With G.shdsl technology, Aware further enhances its core DSL technology portfolio. Aware's DSL intellectual property offerings include single and multiport architectures, system and run-time software, ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) cores and reference/line card designs. By using Aware's intellectual property, semiconductor companies can rapidly develop G.shdsl standard-compliant DSL chipsets.
Aware will be at SUPERCOMM 2001 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, June 5-7, 2001 (Booth #2110). |
