Actually, a large flaw in your analogy is that Le Morte D'Arthur was never understood to be a contemporaneous or near contemporaneous account. In fact, it is well- known that Arthurian tales were written at least as early as the 12th century, and even then were understood to refer to an antique period preserved in folklore. Also, the questions raised about Josephus et alia are not probative, but merely point out that interpolation was possible. Since there are references to Jesus and the disciples in the Talmud, and it is unlikely that they were interpolated, there is at least some small evidence of historicity beyond the actions of the Apostles (why did they consent to crucifixion if it were a fable?) and the early church......
