You can see the same thing in the story of the Nifty Fifty. They would grow forever. Nothing could go wrong with those. Xerox and Polaroid were among the Nifty Fifty.

Walt Disney was also one of the Nifty Fifty stocks. It lost 85% of its value after the peak in '72, falling from 210 to 31. Coca-Cola lost 70%.

In April '99, Andrew Tobias asked: "Could something like this happen to AOL, selling for 650 times earnings? Or to Yahoo, selling for 1200 times earnings? Or to Amazon, selling at 225 times losses?"

And Tobias wrote of the Nifty Fifty:

"But how would you have known when to get out? As they got lower and lower, did they not seem ever better buys? Whatever had kept you in at the top -- wouldn't you have had even more reason to stay in as the stocks got cheaper?"

So many of the techs still have high P/E's that could eventually fall back into the teens. EMC has fallen a lot, but its P/E is still 38.6. AOL's P/E is 195. And look at biotechs. CHIR's P/E is a delightful 781.

But enough out of me. Buy, buy, buy!!!! I think the Naz will be at 5000 by the end of next week! This is the time to get in!!!! QLGC is undervalued with a P/E of only 72!!!! The bear market is over!!!! Step right up!!!! Get your undervalued tech stocks now!!!!!!! See the dancing bear subdued by AG or AJC!!!! We're going higher!!!!! (Excuse me: Multiple personality disorder. Or just practicing for job interview at CNBC. Or working the thread as an institutional analyst.)
