stockrider - EOM window dressing goes on with many funds - although not to the same extent as end of quarter. This is really prevalent in the tech area - where lots of funds like to advertise recent good returns.

Settlement date does not matter - when funds window dress - they are usually trying to prop up existing big positions they own. If they can "mark up " these stocks by buying some more today - they create an artificial rise in their fund value. For instance - if I ran XYZ fund - and owned 1,000,000 shares of FFIV- and it was at $10.39 to start the day - and I can buy 40,000 shares today to help move the price up to $11.28 (or $.87) - with that small purchase - I improve my performance by $870,000 on my existing shares. Not too shabby - nor not too legal either - but when has that ever stopped da big boys.
