John,

I believe that the market has provided a one time opportunity in the optical sector which we're unlikely to see again. That doesn't mean that the opportunity won't get bigger in the short term.

My most profitable purchases have consistently been when one or more gurus pronounced a stock as being "Dead Money". I've not yet found a better indicator that the sellers were pretty well done; and that an unexpectedly strong recovery was imminent.

Fiber is already being deployed to the home in many cities for some new Condos / Apt buildings as well as some new subdivisions. Last mile fiber to the home in established neighbourhoods could take a long time. As the content of web transmissions migrates to increasing percentages of audio, video, image relative to text, I would expect a very rapid ramp up in requirements for bandwidth, chips and, of course, semi equipment. (Last was needed to make this post somewhat on topic. :-))
