| By the way, when I say that I am agnostic, I mean I am genuinely undecided about something, and can see arguments on both sides. I do not mean that I firmly believe something, but admit that I can't be 100% certain. The way Karen and X have used the term agnostic, to indicate disbelief that is somewhat less than 100%, would make Christopher Hodgkins claim to be an agnostic good: after all, he happens to believe in God, but is not 100% sure. Anyway, I mention this because there is sometimes confusion about my willingness to sympathetically take up one side of an argument, when I myself might be undecided or hold a somewhat different, if not opposite, opinion. If I haven't made up my mind, or, having made up my mind, nevertheless know from consideration what can be said to favor something, I will sometimes try to explain the point of view without a lot of caveats....... |
