Well, oil/energy is a national security issue, which is something that Clinton/Gore never paid much attention during their stint in office. I don't like having US foreign policy held hostage to a strategic commodity held by a bunch of unstable authoritarian and/or religiously zealous regimes.

That said, I see nothing wrong with MUTUAL dependence such as their selling us oil, while purchasing an equivalent amout of critical goods that they can't produce for themselves. This forms an international symbiosis that ties these nations together economically.

It's going to be REAL interesting to observe how the new Democratic senate handles the energy issues left behind by slick willie.

Maybe they'll cry for Bush to release more oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve... Democratic policy seems to always involve "pushing on a string" and manipulating markets.
