Only one thing causes inflation. Inflation is not caused by higher wages or rising oil prices or anything like that. Those may reveal the effects of inflation, but they are not the source of inflation. Only the expansion of credit and the money supply can cause inflation. Now the effects of inflation may be manifested via higher oil prices or higher stock prices or what have you, but inflation is not defined by rising prices.
