Thanks Graystone Partial success!! The 600 (server) now can see the 500 (client), but not the reverse. The 500 does not show either server or client. The 3Com was the NIC that I installed, so I made the necessary deletions on the configuration tab as you suggested. When I re-started the computer windows wanted me to re-install the D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter and I pressed OK assuming that it is part of the existing hardware, since there is a similar adapter on the 600 (D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter), it also re-installed the TCP/IP for the adapter as well. I'm guessing here, but would these two adapters be for the direct link using using a cable and joined at the same ports? KC
