A Report on the visit of Dr. J. J. Irani to Middle East Fiber Cable Manufacturing facilities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A 15 member delegation of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) visited Saudi Arabia at the
invitation of Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry from 14th to 17th April 2001.
The Indian delegation was in Saudi Arabia to enhance multilateral cooperation between the two
countries in several fields including IT and Telecommunication.

Dr. J. J. Irani, the leader of the delegation, and Managing Director of Tata Steel Company India,
paid a visit to Manufacturing facilities of Middle East Fiber Cables Manufacturing Company
(MEFC) in Riyadh. He visited the Optical Fiber Drawing and Testing facilities, as also Fiber optic
Cable Manufacturing facilities and expressed his keen desire to go for mutual cooperation in the field
of Fiber optic Communication.

Engineer Hashem S. Al-Huneidi, GM of MEFC discussed with Dr. Irani, the possibility of
Establishing the Optic Fiber Preform manufacturing facilities and Optical Fiber drawing facilities in
India in close cooperation with Royale Systems Group and Fibercore Inc. USA, the American
partners of MEFC
. Dr. Irani highlighted the achievement of Tata Consultancy Services in Software
Development and offered the latest Software Systems to Saudi Industrial houses in General and
MEFC in particular.

Dr. Irani and Mr. Hashem mutually agreed to be in constant touch with each other to explore and
enhance the technical cooperation with each other. Dr. Irani expressed his utmost satisfaction with
the visit and expressed his thanks for organizing such a useful visit.
