By Susan Taylor
OTTAWA, May 30 (Reuters)

"If I were Nortel I'd be wondering what does Alcatel go for next that could strengthen their position," Kedersha [analyst at Adams, Harkness & Hill] said. "I think Redback makes a lot of sense for them."

Redback Networks Inc.'s (RBAK) chief executive recently resigned from the Internet infrastructure supplier, amid a series of management shuffles and 12 percent staff cuts. The interim CEO has denied persistent rumors the company is a takeover target, saying Redback in not for sale.
