re: Billion Mobile Users Next Year - T68 and the T39 GPRS Models This Year

>> Ericsson Sees 1 Billion Mobile Users Worldwide In 2002

AFX News Limited
01 June 2001

LM Ericsson AB expects the number of mobile users to reach 1 bln next year, said Johan Siberg, executive vice president at Ericsson.

Speaking at the e-mobility EU conference, Siberg said:

"The number of mobile users will overtake the number of fixed subscribers by 2002 worldwide, and be around 1 bln."

Currently there are around 800 mln mobile users in the world.

Siberg said he thinks the market is now ready for advanced mobile services, which combine the mobile Internet and broadband internet, offering features like mobile commerce, location services, interactive games and cameras.

To tackle this new market, Ericsson is launching two GPRS phones this year, the T68 and the T39, he said, adding that a handset with a camera should also be available in the market before year-end. <<
