>> Nokia Is About To Launch New Music Ringtones

GSM Box
May 31, 2001

Nokia has struck a deal with Iobox, a web music firm, and Tellstar, a record firm, to give mobile phones real music ringtones rather than electronic versions and allowing users to download entire recordings.

The first offering will be BBMak's Still On Your Side but we expect also tracks by Craig David, Sash and Phats And Small.

Terra Mobile-Iobox, Internet tune provider, says that the deal with Telstar will deliver full tunes to users' mobiles at less than £1 each (1,64 euro).
An entire list of tunes will be available online within a few months.

All the same, there are still talks in progress with other major labels.
The ringtone offering will initially be available just on Nokia's 9210 handset starting from this summer at a price of around £680.

Users will have to upgrade their handsets to models compatible with emerging 2.5G mobile phone networks. <
