Yes... a VERY complex scenario. And one more reason that Saddam Hussein was left in place after the gulf war as a convenient whipping boy who will assist in maintain a balance of terror between the disparate groups in the region.

Had Saddam been overthrown, there is little doubt that Turkey would have invaded the north to deal with their Kurdish separatists (who would have used that region as their foundation for an independent nation/state). The Iranians would have conquered the east to deal with the Iranian Muhadjideen trying to overthrow the Shiites in Tehran.. And Saudi Arabia and Kuwait would have been been forced to subjugate the Shiite Arabs living in the south of Iraq, to prevent their own Wahabbi and Sunni regimes from being undermined.

Yep... VERY COMPLEX situation.... And a very fine balance of power at stake in these nations.
