I don't know about everywhere, but I am pretty sure it is a violation of the building codes in Harris County, TX (Houston). Another thing, when you go shopping for homeowners insurance, they will ask if you have copper, or aluminum, wiring. The indication is that you pay a substantial penalty premium for aluminum.
