Not directly. But ebone is in direct competition to iaxis and other backbones and if it fails this spells trouble - for the whole branch.

But if ebone falls, the pieces will, again be picked up for 20c on the dollar, best case, and delay demand for new products. All picks'n shovels producers affected.

When iaxis finally filed for administration it sent shockwaves into the market who believed until then that everything goes, including ciena. When ebone goes under (and ebone is much bigger and considered the more stable entity) then it is clear that the picture worsened compared to fall 2000.

ebone, restructured and maybe freed of debt service will be able to gain business on easier pricing; all others who serve debt will have a competitive pressure; additionally lowered pricing will perhaps put the pricing pressure on the investment side; hence, vendors face challenging times.
