While the Japanese have enjoyed a increase in their standard of living (if you call gadgets == increase in the standard of living <g>), I think their standard of living has always been somewhat lower than in the states, no?

Foodstuffs, energy and many other items remain relatively expensive in dollar terms, right?

Thanks much for the post -- it is interesting from the standpoint of the changes in the numbers -- need more data points and some context. Not asking you for that -- thanks again ...
