Telstra buddy Pacific Century Cyberworks has denied it is facing funding problems for its reported US$1.2 billion bid to buy out Singaporean mobile carrier MobileOne (M1) despite its mounting debt.

PCCW chairman Alex Arena said the company will have no problems funding the deal but declined to comment in detail on the bid. "It is a contested bid situation. We have to be careful," he said.

PCCW and Telstra, through their joint venture Regional Wireless Company are reportedly bidding for M1 in competition with Malaysia-based Maxis Communications. Vodafone pulled out of the running for M1 after doing out due diligence on the company.
